THIS IS A POEM ABOUT EXPRESSING AND SHEDDING 1.4.18

1.4.18

things that fall resemble each
other, at least to me
they do.

today leaves showered
down from the trees,
winter in los angeles.

to me,
it was not beautiful
but sad.

once i conceived the leaves
as tears i could not conceive
them otherwise.

trees were expressing,
not shedding, but then
what’s the difference?

molten skin and shed tears
signify the same thing, a past
outgrown

and a pain yet to come.
as hairs fall like pepper
from my head

i think, oh yes, that’s right
we are always moving forward
even as the earth spins round.
