THIS IS A POEM ABOUT PREDATORY GRIFFINFLIES 5.16.17

5.16.17

When I think

of predatory griffinflies

from the Carboniferous

my heart fills to bursting

at the beauty in the world.

Step back,

decentralize the self

and embrace the total vision.

Next time you feel

the crushing emptiness

of being human, imagine

when beasts roamed the earth

and remind yourself

they came from nothing,

from gas

detonating stars

rock and flame

death, collision

seas of liquid waste

that produced creatures

incapable of scaling land

and yet they did.
