THIS IS A POEM ABOUT DESTINATIONS AND SOFT VOICES AND THE SCRIPTURE OF MY GRIEF 11.7.17

11.7.17

I’d like a second chance
if we make it that far
I’d like to reshape myself
if we make it that far
I’d like to sink into despair &
howl at the sun & share with
people door-to-door messages
from the scripture of my grief
if we make it that far
I’d like to remind you that the journey
is never as important as the destination
because the destination was why the journey
happened in the first place
if we make it that far
I’d like to arrive at a fork in the road
if we make it that far
I’d like to watch you walk away
if we make it that far
I’d like to hold you & speak as softly
as the soul of your mother speaks
when her mouth opens with words
for you that are horrendous and false
yet angelic with potential
if we make it that far I will be changed
& so will you & it will be a better time
because we will have made it.
