THIS IS A POEM ABOUT A RUBBER REINDEER AND A FIREPLACE AND TOMFOOLERY 12.25.17

12.25.17

it is a reindeer
made of rubber
painted red
with blue horns
and a button
in the center
of its head
that makes
the sound of
a cow when you
press it; regardless
of logical discrepancies,
what i’ve described was
a child’s favorite toy
this christmas; she rode
the reindeer cow around
the house, named it…
reindeer cow, while
yelling, I’m a cowboy
I’m a cowboy, while
almost hurling herself
into the fireplace. i believe
this is what our forefathers
would have called tomfoolery,
and i’m saddened that
if it were me riding a rubber
reindeer, calling it by the
wrong name, and screaming
an imagined occupation
to the sky, they’d call
me mentally imbalanced.
by this i
am deeply pained.
